Calaveras County Travel Information

Calaveras County was made famous worldwide when Mark Twain wrote of the Celebrated Jumping Frog in 1865. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains it offers many activities; including historic and picturesque gold rush towns, award winning foothill wineries, micro-breweries and pubs, art galleries, antique shops, and gold rush museums. There is also gold panning and caving in the variety of natural limestone and crystalline-filled caverns open to the public.
